On 14 January 2001 the very first geocache was planted in South Africa by GPSFrodo. It was GCZA01. Jors, still an active Gauteng cacher found it on 17 January 2001 and had this to say about it:
"I really enjoyed this, and will hide my own one of these other hot! days. Lets keep this fun thing going!!"
This “fun thing” has burgeoned into an amazing sport / pastime which is enjoyed by so many people round the world. This year’s TB race is to celebrate ten years of geocaching in South Africa. I want everyone to share in it and be part of this phenomenon. Hence I have broadened the participation to facilitate entrants from the four corners of our beautiful country to participate by coinciding the race launch with local events in every region.
